Themes

I write poems about a lot of different topics but I try to categorize them into the following broad categories, both to give myself an overview but also for my readers to better find ones that may interest them.

My list of themes is subject to change whenever something ends up not fitting the mold but I'll keep the updated version available here.

  • Systemic Structures & Ideologies: Broad, foundational societal critiques, including capitalism, discrimination, and existential social constructs.
  • Institutional Harm & Neglect: Failures of institutions, systemic abuse, and societal negligence, such as policy-driven poverty, healthcare failures, and corruption.
  • Everyday Social Commentary: Smaller-scale social critiques, group dynamics, cultural trends, and interpersonal observations.
  • Depression & Despair: Poems centered on themes of depression, hopelessness, numbness, and existential sadness.
  • ADHD & Executive Functions: Experiences of ADHD/ADD, including attention struggles, hyperactivity, executive dysfunction, and feeling out of sync.
  • General Mental Health: A broader category for mental health topics that don’t fit into a specific diagnosis.
  • Family & Childhood Trauma: Poems about early-life experiences, intergenerational wounds, difficult family relationships, and formative struggles.
  • Love & Relationships: Encompasses both the uplifting and painful aspects of love, (a)romance, connection, and heartbreak.
  • Autism & Sensory Processing: Experiences of autism, masking, feeling different and out of sync with others, as well as sensory overload and processing.
Additionally, all of my poems will have the Poem label. Any post that isn't a poem will be labeled Meta instead.
